Bridging the Gap in Seniors' Housing and Care

The city of Vancouver is rapidly aging and there is not enough seniors' housing and care available to meet current needs. As our population is aging, the demand for seniors' housing and care is increasing.

Amica Senior Lifestyles has partnered with local developers to address the shortage of housing and care in the Westside.

Are We Supporting Our Aging Neighbours?

Vancouver's Westside neighbourhoods have the city's highest percentage of seniors, and this proportion will continue to rise. Today's seniors and families are urgently calling for more resources to serve their complex needs, as there is not enough housing, care, transportation or social infrastructure available.  The unaddressed need will continue to grow as the aging population grows, and as Vancouver's older residents need progressively more dedicated, round-the-clock support that family members are not always able to provide.

The Stats Tell the Story

In BC, the population of seniors aged 75+ is projected to more than double within the next 15-20 years.

The Westside of Vancouver has an older population compared to the rest of Vancouver. Amica's average waitlist in the Lower Mainland is currently over 2 years.

Amica Projects

Amica Senior Lifestyles is committed to helping seniors and their families through the development of more housing with fully licensed care. The proposed developments by Amica will help seniors to continue to safely age in the communities they call home.

There is a significant need for all types of seniors housing and care. With only 1,300 private-pay seniors care suites on Vancouver's Westside, and the number of seniors aged 75+ projected to double in the next 15-20 years, the existing inventory cannot meet demand. Amica has four seniors residences underway in Vancouver which, once completed, will deliver 784 purpose-built seniors care units.  This is the step in the right direction but much more is needed to meet current and future demand.
